TEDxIndianaUniversity- “When A Tree Falls”
This poster was created in conjunction with TEDxIndianaUniversity for the student organization’s March conference. Each annual conference encapsulates a theme, and my design team and I were tasked with coming up with an accessible design that complements 2021’s theme, which also happens to be an age-old philosophical question.
“When A Tree Falls” is reference to the long form question: “when a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?’
Similar to the philosophical thought experiment, my design team and were tasked with designing and 11x17 poster that invokes observational and perceptual questions. I wanted to create something that reveals more as one looks at it– similar to how the philosophical question reveals more to the ponderer as he or she questions these themes.
This design process accumulated months and months of iterating, revising, collaborating and critiquing amongst my team members and I. Previous drafts of the design can be seen below. I am grateful for TEDxIU for allowing me to use my creativity to spearhead this design project, and for my teammates for their support and creative energy throughout the ideation process. I believe that I was able to create something that stands out, and will most importantly get people in the Bloomington community excited about TEDx. I look forward to seeing my work displayed around campus.
Thank you to Jennifer Hanling for her contributions to this design.
